Samuel Statland
Samuel Statland and partner Hershel Katz founded Statland & Katz, Ltd. In Silver Spring, MD, in 1973, with one employee and a small office. Since then, the firm has grown in terms of staff and office space, and has operated continuously, and successfully, in Silver Spring.
Sam began his insurance career just two years prior to founding Statland & Katz, selling life, health and disability insurance for Mutual of New York in Chevy Chase, Maryland. During the next two years, Sam’s clients asked him to help them with estate planning, financial planning, retirement planning, and property casualty insurance. Sam became fully licensed for all types of insurance in 1973, and acted on his vision for a consumer-oriented, “one-stop-shop” financial services organization.
He attributes the success of Statland & Katz to remaining true to that vision, and to delivering personalized service to his clients nationwide, many of whom have been with the firm for decades.

Julie Statland
Julie Statland joined Statland & Katz in 1989, when Hershel hired her to be a client service representative. Julie serviced client accounts before advancing to sales and marketing. Her acquired experiences and knowledge of the financial services industry served her well, and in 1997, Julie became a full partner, when a business continuation plan was put into place. Julie began to buy out Hershel in 2003. In her current role, Julie has overall administrative oversight of the firm.
Five years before joining Statland & Katz, Julie “learned the business” working in claims for a major carrier, for competitors, and for an accounting/insurance agency. 
Since becoming a full partner in Statland and Katz, Julie has continued the Statland & Katz, philosophy and tradition of community service. She is past chair of The Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce and a leading force in the community through her work with Community Bridges, The Silver Spring Takoma Thunderbolts baseball team, and Pyramid Atlantic.
